Intimacy and Praise

What is Praise?

Praise is a verbal or heart commendation of who God is, an act of expressing admiration, approval, exaltation, honor, and gratitude; it goes along with thanksgiving and worship.

Why Praise?

The Lord is worthy of our praise.                                                                                                            Praise glorifies His Name.                                                                                                                       The Lord dwells in the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3).                                                      Whoso offers praise glorifies me: (Psalm 50:23a).                                                                              It is good to praise the Lord (Psalm 92:1).                                                                                            It is a command; it is necessary to acknowledge and to offer tribute to the author and the finisher of our salvation. (Hebrews 12:2).

Who is to Praise God?

Everything that has breath is to praise (Psalm 150:6).                                                                  Young and old should praise God (Psalm 148:12)?                                                                              All people including kings, princes, judges of the world (Psalm 148:11).                                    The angels are to praise God (Psalm 103:2).                                                                                   The Saints should praise God (Psalm 30:4).                                                                                          The nations should praise God (Psalm 117:1).                                                                                The children should praise God (Matthew 21:6).

When Do We Praise?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised. (Psalm 113:3).   All the time.                                                                                                                                                In devotion.                                                                                                                                                When it’s convenient in a happy mood, and when it seems complicated in trouble and discomfort.                                                                                                                                                  When you can’t pray, praise.
                                                                                                                                                                   The Benefits of Praise

Praise facilitates access to God,” enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise” (Psalm 100:4).                                                                                                                          Praise makes room for blessings “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:” (Ephesians. 1:3).  Praise releases God’s power and miracles. Paul and Silas sang and praised God at midnight after the Romans locked them up in prison. As they sang and praised God sent an earthquake, and the prison doors opened, their chains broke. The prison warden and family believed and encountered God.                                                                                                                                   Our Spirits experience refreshment and renewal in His presence “In His presence there is fullness of joy.” (Psalm 16:11).

How to Praise

We should praise Him for what He has done, for giving us this beautiful world we live in, but most of all, for His Son, Jesus Christ, who gave his life to provide the way of redemption for us and unveiled God’s great plan of salvation, so we might be saved.                                   Praise Him for He is the mighty God, the King of kings, and the Lord of Lords. The mighty man of war who fights are battles.                                                                                                       He deserves our praise for His steadfast love, and grace that are new every morning.              His daily provision, the free air we breathe, and all things working together for good.             His plans to give us peace, a future, and an expected end. He showed us love and mercy that we lost sinners can be called the sons and daughters of God.                                                         His pleasant thoughts toward mankind, thoughts of peace and not of evil.                              For giving us his wonderful treasure the Bible, so we can tap into the breadth, length, height, and the depth of His love.

David’s Example of PraisePsalm 150

Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary! Praise him in the sky, which testifies to his strength! Praise him for his mighty acts! Praise him for his surpassing greatness! Praise him with the blast of the horn! Praise him with the lyre and the harp! Praise him with the tambourine and with dancing! Praise him with stringed instruments and the flute! Praise him with loud cymbals! Praise him with clanging cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!
