Intimacy- You Are Not Alone

Having accepted the Lord Jesus Christ, we can be confident we have the God of gods residing in us. His presence includes all His divine attributes; His power, glory, goodness are ours forever. We derive our confidence about living this life on His assurance through His Words which reveal the constant awesomeness of His power in Christ Jesus. “We cannot have any other support or insurance as the promises of the King of kings.

We read in the book of Exodus about the mighty hands that delivered the children of Israel from slavery and settled them in the land of Canaan with the awesomeness of His power in signs and wonders.

David lived confidently with this assurance and readily called upon God for help. He said, “When I cry out to You,                                                                                                                        Then my enemies will turn back;                                                                                                          This I know because God is for me.                                                                                                      In God (I will praise His word),                                                                                                                   In the Lord (I will praise His word),                                                                                                          In God I have put my trust;                                                                                                                        I will not be afraid.                                                                                                                              What can man do to me?” (Psalm 56:9-11).

As we dig deeper into His Word, we discover the treasures He has for us as children of the king; we understand the power that dwells in us and available 24/7.

Paul yearned to experience the tremendous power of God which comes as He yields daily to Christlike living, and prayed, “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.” (Philippians 3:10).

Paul was thirsting for more of God; his experience of reaching out to people, sharing, living out the Christ-life, and performing signs and wonders were not satisfactory enough for him. Paul was willing to lay everything down at the foot of the cross up to the humiliation Jesus suffered at the cross as to get more of Him.

We can now appreciate the example of the lives God moved through. They were die-hard for God, and their lives experienced His power and presence. As we read the scriptures, we see examples of men and women who gave their all to get more of God; even at the point of ridicule, they did not look back and stood through to the end. Daniel experienced victory while in the den of lions. (Daniel 6). Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego enjoyed the company of the fourth man while cast in the flame of fire. Their hair did not singe, nor their clothes caught up in flames. (Daniel 3:27).

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,                                                                                                           Nor have entered into the heart of man                                                                                                  The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9).

You are not alone; He wants to hold your hand, walk with you, and sup with you (Rev 3:20).   He wants to share with you your joys and sorrow, and 1Peter 5 says, “Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (v. 5-6).

He said he would never leave you nor forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5). He wants you to trust Him, and He invited you to come. “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 28-29).

“After receiving the Lord Jesus Christ, we should aspire to grow to understand Him and experience the benefits we have in Him.

The King of Syria was at war with Israel, but the prophet Elisha was quick to see the revelation of the King’s following strategies against Israel, and Elisha warned the King of Israel. The news got to the King of Syria, Elisha was the one revealing his secrets. The King of Syria sent his army to capture Elisha. Elisha’s servant was on an errand outside and saw an army troop with horses and chariots surrounded the city; he cried to Elisha, his master, what they’d do? Elisha said, “Don’t be afraid, those who are with us are more than those who are with them,” and prayed God to open His eyes.” Immediately, the servant saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. (2 Kings 6:8-22).

Jesus said, “and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20).

When we walk with the Lord, the Holy Spirit continues to illuminate our hearts and lives, shapes us, mold us into a heavenly pattern, our thoughts reasoning works in resonance with Him.                                                                                                                                                          We find flesh breaks; self-destroys daily. We grow in God, and our lives produce the fruits of the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22).                                                                                                               Flesh in us dies. Paul admonished, “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil desire, and covetousness which is idolatry.                                                                                                                                           Because of these, the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience,                             in which ye also once walked, when ye lived in them.                                                                      But now ye also put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.                                                                                                                                               Do not lie one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds,                    and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him.” (Colossians 3:5-11).

As we walk with Him, our senses become alert to the Holy Spirit, a transformation confirming that which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit; only then our thoughts and spirit align with the things of God; we experience His divine presence, our faith increases, our love for Him becomes sweeter, the things of the world grow dimmer. We mature and appreciate His Word and start to understand the depth of His love.

Paul used the illustration of a living sacrifice on presenting our bodies to the Lord. (Romans 12:1). Things for sacrifice are first captured to surrender, and then the assailant can have precedence. Paul used the analogy for the Christian to emulate live surrender “not I, but Christ.”  (Galatians 2:20).                                                                                                                            David is an example of a man who surrendered His will to the almighty, and in His books of Psalms, expressed the presence of the Almighty through various imagery.

Steps to Enjoy His Daily Presence

Observe a daily fellowship in reading and meditation on His Word,                                            Live in obedience to the Word of God                                                                                                 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit and avoid sin                                                                                Confess any known or unknown, sin unto God to keep the unity of the Holy Spirit                  Live a prayerful life “pray without ceasing.” (1Thessalonians 5:16).

Jesus started His ministry reading out to a congregation the prophecy of Him by prophet Isaiah, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,                                                                                     Because He has anointed Me                                                                                                                To preach the gospel to the poor;                                                                                                        He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,                                                                                        To proclaim liberty to the captives                                                                                                    And recovery of sight to the blind,                                                                                                          To set at liberty those who are oppressed;                                                                                            To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:18-19).

When our eyes are open, we can confidently testify and say, like David,

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Highest                                                                        Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.                                                                                      I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;                                                                    My God, in Him I will trust.”                                                                                                                  Surely, He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler                                                               And from the perilous pestilence.                                                                                                       He shall cover you with His feathers,                                                                                                And under His wings you shall take refuge;                                                                                      His truth shall be your shield and buckler.                                                                                        You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,                                                                                           Nor of the arrow that flies by day,                                                                                                       Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,                                                                                        Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.                                                                            A thousand may fall at your side,                                                                                                       And ten thousand at your right hand;                                                                                                But it shall not come near you.                                                                                                                  Only with your eyes shall you look,                                                                                                      And see the reward of the wicked.                                                                                                Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,                                                                   Even the Highest, your dwelling place,                                                                                                  No evil shall befall you,                                                                                                                         Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;                                                                                For He shall give His angels charge over you,                                                                                    To keep you in all your ways.                                                                                                                  In their hands, they shall bear you up,                                                                                               Lest you dash your foot against a stone.                                                                                         You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,                                                                                        The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.                                              “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;                                                   I will set him on high because he has known My name.                                                                 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;                                                                                       I will be with him in trouble;                                                                                                                      I will deliver him and honor him.                                                                                                                With long life, I will satisfy him,                                                                                                            And show him My salvation.” (Psalm 91: 1-16).
